Brazilian Art comes to L.A. – by skateboard
From March 27th to April 7th, Tony Alva’s Exhibit A Gallery will be showing RE:board, an art show with over 50 decks, that tell the history of skateboarding in Brazil, featuring the homonimous documentary, directed, shot and produced by Alexandre Sesper, is a skateboarder, graphic artist and lead singer of a hardcore band called Garage Fuzz, since 1991.
He personally shot, directed and produced the documentary, collected the decks and interviewed everyone involved.
He collected several testimonies, from skateboarders, manufacturers and artists, who were pioneers in the 80’s and are, nowadays, praised designers.
Among the models that will be shown, are the first three Brazilian deck models, that demarcated the start of the sport’s professionalization in the country, in 1985: Álvaro Por Quê?, George Rotatori and Jorge Kuge’s models, manufactured by Urgh and drawn by Billy Argel. The artist also signs the best sold professional deck in Brazil: Thronn’s model, a national street champion that lives in California nowadays.
At the opening party, you will meet the documentary author, Alexandre Sesper; the art show curator, Ana Paula Negrão, Jorge Kuge, Urgh owner and several other relevant names.
